As a chef trained in the US and born in South India, I’ve perfected this recipe, so no one can never tell it was made from a concentrate! Matki - Artisanal kulfi ice cream, Belmont. Matki Kulfi Creamery is a passion-driven venture born from the rich, nostalgic flavors of my childhood in Bombay, India. Kulfi is a dense, creamy frozen dessert with a texture reminiscent of gelato. Originating in Persia centuries ago, it traveled to India, where it became a royal indulgence. Staying true to tradition, we slowly simmer high-quality milk for hours, allowing its natural sugars to caramelize before infusing it with delicate flavors like cardamom, saffron, and rosewater. This fragrant base is then paired with a variety of toppings and transformed into handcrafted kulfi pops.
Unlike conventional ice cream, our kulfi delivers an intensely rich, velvety experience that lingers with every bite. It’s a distinctive addition to the world of frozen desserts—merging the luxurious texture of gelato with the warmth of aromatic spices. With every bite, we invite you to savor the magic of tradition, the joy of discovery, and the sweetness of memories made to last.
Fun fact: The name Matki comes from the traditional clay pots once used to make kulfi. In the old days, the mixture was poured into these pots, sealed, and frozen using ice and salt!
Mei Mei Dumplings, Boston. Chef Irene Li co-founded Mei Mei with her two older siblings in 2012 as a food truck. Mei Mei's unconventional dumpling combinations showcase our love for great New England ingredients along with a pursuit of what tastes delicious. We use pasture-raised meat that is sourced from the Northeast and work with small, independent family farms. We are able to source 70% of our produce from the Northeast across the year. During the pandemic our business has changed. We’ve taken our food truck off the road and closed our restaurant dining room. Now we’re strengthening our ties to the local food community by bringing our dumplings to farmers markets– markets where we connect with the very same farmers we purchase ingredients from!
